The Lawrence Police Department has officially opened up applications for its 2025 Citizen Academy, offering local residents a closer look at law enforcement procedures and responsibilities. Scheduled weekly sessions on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the police department headquarters will cover a range of topics from criminal investigations to crisis negotiation and crime scene processing; the program's setup is meant to be comprehensive but also immersive, allowing participants to partake in hands-on scenarios, special presentations and even a chance to complete a ride-along with a patrol officer for a firsthand experience of the on-the-ground realities officers face. Lawrence residents who are at least 21 years of age can submit their application for the Citizen Academy beginning December 30, up until the deadline of February 7, 2025.
