A man was critically injured following a shooting incident in Lawrence which later escalated to the victim succumbing to his injuries. The Lawrence Police Department (LPD) responded to the situation yesterday night after reports of gunfire around 8:36 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Post Road, as per information from FOX59.
An officer who was on-duty in the vicinity reported hearing shots fired and was directed by witnesses to a man shot in the parking lot of Don Marcos Restaurant Y Taqueria. The critically injured man was quickly taken to a local hospital. Despite initial hopes for recovery, a public police report later confirmed that the victim ultimately died from his injuries, according to WTHR.
Authorities detained one suspect at the scene, and further investigation led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man. The suspect faces preliminary charges of murder and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
