Early Tuesday morning, a police-involved shooting in Carroll County, Indiana led to the death of Christopher Evans, 35, who was suspected of stabbing two people in Logansport, according to FOX59. Responding to a 911 report, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence around 12:23 a.m. to find one of the stabbing victims; the second victim’s injuries were later reported as non-life-threatening, the deputies secured the scene and began life-saving efforts.
The situation escalated when a deputy, having returned to their patrol vehicle to retrieve additional medical supplies, encountered Evans who was armed with knives, and according to WTHR, failed to comply with the deputy's commands and charged at the deputy, the deputy, in response, fired their weapon, hitting Evans at least once, and resulting in his death at the scene.
The Indiana State Police is heading the investigation into the shooting with help from the Carroll County Coroner's Office and the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office, as each officer-involved shooting leads to a suspension of standard duties, the deputy who shot Evans has been placed on administrative leave, this incident follows the standard protocol for an officer-involved shooting by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
As for the stabbing victims, one remains in critical but stable condition, while the other has injuries that are not life-threatening, the aftermath of this violent encounter has left unanswered questions about the motivations behind the stabbings, however, with authorities not yet disclosing what precipitated the attack, WISH-TV reported.
