In the spirit of the holiday season, Martinsville will be pausing some of its heartbeat to give space for the festive cheer. Scheduled to fold its operations temporarily, the City Municipal Building, along with administrative and Constitutional offices, will draw the curtains early at 5 p.m. on Friday, resuming regular business hours on Thursday.
As residents string lights and nestle into the holiday mood, city officials have outlined plans for closures and service adjustments during the Christmas and New Year's celebrations. According to a statement from the City of Martinsville, there will be no thrum of activity at the City Municipal Building over these periods, keeping doors firmly closed on Wednesday and New Year's Day, with operations bouncing back the following day in each instance.
When it comes to the more mundane, yet essential matters of waste collection, regular trash collection has been slated for Tuesday. However, in recognition of Christmas Day, there will be no trash pickup, with the service rolling over to Thursday. The regular rhythm of refuse collection will resume post New Year's celebrations on January 2.
Residents should note that those requiring brush or BULK trash services will need to schedule around the holiday halts, with such pickups being suspended starting tomorrow until Thursday, and again on New Year's Day. Those branches and discarded items will need to wait, lingering a while longer as employees of Martinsville honor the time of reflection and revelry.
The essential cadence of city life, provided by first responders and utility workers, will not miss a beat. Ensuring security and functionality through the holiday period, Police, Fire, EMS, and water/sewer plant operations personnel shall continue their steadfast service, adhering to their normal schedules while the city observes Christmas and New Year's festivities.
