Early Saturday morning, a 64-year-old man was hospitalized following a violent home invasion in Morgan County. The attack took place at the 9000 block of State Road 39, as reported by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office (MCSO). "Deputies responded to the...report of a 64-year-old man who was attacked in his home," noted MCSO in a Facebook post cited by FOX59.
Under the cloak of darkness, silence was shattered by a husband's screams, leading his wife to discover the injured man, conscious with head wounds. The man’s wife "woke up to sounds of her husband screaming," according to an interview with the victimís spouse obtained by WTHR. She found him "awake and conscious, but suffering from head injuries."
Authorities are still piecing together the facts of this alarming event. The victim relayed to law enforcement that an unidentified male had assaulted him using a large object. However, the details including the nature of the object and how the assailant gained entry into the home remain uncertain. "It is unknown how the male intruder made his way into the house," as WTHR reports.
The MCSO, working alongside the Morgan County Major Crimes Task Force, is actively pursuing leads. The man, now a patient at IU Methodist Hospital, is expected to recover. In a bid to apprehend the assailant, a surveillance image of a person of interest has been publicized. The incident is "believed to be an isolated incident," the office stated in an assurance to the public. Anyone with information related to the pictured individual is urged to reach out to Detective Pat Williams at [email protected], or to contact the Morgan County Public Safety Dispatch Center, details provided by the WISH-TV report.
