A man was arrested after allegedly firing a gun into a bar in Ogden, striking a patron, as documents revealed. Carlos Mendez, a 40-year-old man, faces multiple charges following the incident, including two counts of felony discharge of a firearm. The shooting caused panic and endangered lives at the local establishment.
According to KSL NewsRadio, Mendez made his escape through the back door and then smashed through a wooden fence behind the bar. Police stated that at the time of the incident, the suspect was described as wearing a purple hoodie, a black overcoat, and a hat. After conducting a manhunt, authorities located Mendez at a nearby gas station and placed him in custody.
As detailed by ABC4, Mendez is also charged with one count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and one count of property damage/destruction, causing a loss estimated between $1,500 and $4,999. These charges relate to the repercussions of the shots fired, in which private property was damaged within and possibly beyond the bar's walls.
Fulfilling our understanding of the legal system's role in responding to such events, Mendez was booked into the Weber County Jail. As KUTV reports, he is faced with two first-degree felony charges of discharging a firearm, a second-degree felony charge of unlawful firearm transactions, and a third-degree felony for the property damage incurred. These serious allegations reflect the gravity of the act Mendez is accused of perpetrating.
