A tragic car accident on North Marine Drive, resulting from a reported street racing event, has claimed the life of a teenage boy in Portland. According to a press release from Portland Police, the single-vehicle rollover crash took place late Saturday night, November 30, with the victim found deceased at the scene and the driver staying until authorities arrived.
The incident is now under active investigation by the Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team and has led to the closure of North Marine Drive at North Leadbetter Road. The area investigation has prompted a wider look into the dangerous practices of street takeover events which have led to multiple casualties in the past, not just this single victim; the gathered witnesses have provided some insight, however, many participants fled the scene, leaving the police in search of additional information. This fatal event marks the 65th traffic-related death in Portland this year, with five deaths recorded in the past ten days alone.
