A semi-truck caused a trail of destruction in Harvey this Wednesday as it barreled uncontrollably into an abandoned building. Described as a chaotic scene by officials, the truck was traveling eastbound on 147th Street when it lost control, according to NBC Chicago. In a failed attempt to navigate a turn, the vehicle skid across a grassy expanse, hitting a power line, and then obliterating two garages before coming to a halt against an uninhabited house.
Emergency responders at the crash site worked assiduously to rescue the trapped driver, who became ensnared in the cab post-collision. As per CBS News, nearly three hours lapsed from the moment of the crash until the driver was extricated at 5:55 p.m.; he was lucid and aware throughout the ordeal. Transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and his condition has since been reported as stable.
The aftermath of the crash was not contained to the direct impact alone. The semi's chaotic journey left residents in the area temporarily powerless, disconnecting the electricity supply upon severing the power line.
