Over the weekend, incidents of violence unsettled the west side of Indianapolis, leaving the community to contend with the aftermath of both a shooting and a fatal stabbing. On Saturday evening, a teenage male was shot following an "alleged argument," according to IMPD Capt. Rob Rider, in a statement obtained by WTHR. Responding to a report of a person shot on the 1400 block of South Gerrard Drive, officers found the victim in stable condition, who is now expected to recover. Witnesses saw the teenager walking down the street when he reportedly got into an argument with an individual in a vehicle, during which a shot was fired, striking him.
Shortly following this incident, early yesterday morning, two men were killed in a stabbing in a seemingly unrelated event. After receiving reports of a disturbance around 2:25 a.m., IMPD officers arrived at Eskenazi Hospital, where they were met with the victims who had suffered puncture wounds, as reported by a FOX59 article. After attempting to discern the events that led to their demise, both men were pronounced dead at the hospital. While the altercation is believed to have originated from a fight in the 800 block of North High School Road, little is known whether the victims inflicted wounds upon each other or if others are to be held accountable.
The string of violence has spurred IMPD detectives to seek the public's assistance in both cases. In the shooting incident, the search for evidence and a description of the suspect's vehicle is ongoing. IMPD encourages anyone with information to reach out to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. Similarly, for the stabbing, IMPD has requested that potential witnesses or those with knowledge of the altercation contact detective Steven Gray directly or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
