Over the past weekend, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department apprehended a 15-year-old suspect allegedly connected to a string of armed robberies on the city's east side. An IMPD News social media post notes the juvenile was arrested on suspicions of his involvement in at least three separate incidents, where delivery drivers became the target of armed assaults.
The earliest reported incident took place shortly after midnight on January 18, when a pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint by a young black male. Taken from him were money, pizza, and soda after threatening with a weapon. According to the IMPD, the suspect fled the scene on foot promptly. Similar events unfolded later the same day and again last Monday, involving food delivery personnel confronted by an armed suspect described with similar characteristics. In one case, a neighbor intervened, disrupting the robbery and leading to the victim being tackled and sustaining injuries before the suspect ran away—without taking anything.
IMPD detectives, employing a variety of investigative strategies, managed to link the offenses and zero in on the youthful suspect who was already being monitored with a GPS tracking device due to an ongoing case. This critical piece of evidence placed the suspect at each robbery scene. Law enforcement executed a search warrant on Friday at the suspect's residence. With the backing of numerous specialized police units, the operation led to the suspect's apprehension and the recovery of items connected to the robberies along with a BB gun mistaken for an actual firearm.
Following the arrest and a subsequent interview, the young male was charged with armed robbery and delivered to the Juvenile Detention Center. "An arrest and a charge are merely an accusation, and all individuals should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law," the IMPD reminded in the statement. Decisions regarding the final charges against the juvenile will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
