Chaos erupted at a local Safeway in Brentwood last Friday when a suspect, now identified as 28-year-old Giovanny Gomez of Antioch, reportedly threatened another individual with a firearm. According to authorities, the call came in around 8:30 PM, which led to an immediate response from the Brentwood Police Department.
Upon arrival, law enforcement was able to quickly locate Gomez, who was still at the scene inside his vehicle. To safely engage, officers performed what is known as a “high risk car stop,” a procedure utilized to cautiously handle vehicles linked to serious crimes, especially where the suspects may be armed. This information was detailed in a social media post from the City of Brentwood Police Department.
After the stop, police moved to arrest Gomez, but no further incidents were reported. A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded gun, corroborating the initial reports of the firearm being brandished. The suspect was subsequently charged with assault with a firearm and criminal threats, among other related charges, and was then booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.
