A Boston resident has been sentenced to federal prison for his involvement in a scheme that facilitated the illegal trafficking of firearms. Gustavo Rodriguez, 22, must serve one year and one day behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to federal firearm offenses, including conspiracy to make false statements in records kept by federally licensed firearm dealers (FFLs) and aiding and abetting the making of false statements, according to a Facebook post by the Lowell Police Department.

The conspiracy, which spanned from August 2022 through November 2022, involved making false entries in records mandated for firearms sales to obscure the unlawful sale of guns through another conspirator, Shakim Grant, to Rodriguez, who was barred from legally obtaining firearms due to previous prohibitions. Rodriguez perpetrated the scheme alongside Cory Daigle, an FFL, who along with Grant, provided misinformation to law enforcement in an attempt to cover, up their illicit activities. Both Daigle and Grant have pleaded guilty to their participation, with Daigle having been sentenced to two years in prison as well as three years of supervised release, and Grant receiving three years of probation.

United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, Special Agent in Charge James M. Ferguson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives - Boston Field Division, and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox were the authorities to disclose the sentencing. The Revere Police Department also played a vital role in providing assistance for this investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm of the Major Crimes Unit led the prosecution of this case, ensuring those found responsible faced the consequences of their actions.
