A fire hydrant valve failure caused flooding in Boston's Roslindale neighborhood on Wednesday morning. A 6-inch valve near Catherine Street and Bourne Street collapsed, leaving about 50 homes without water. The Boston Water and Sewer Commission stated the issue was due to the condition of the pipes, according to WHDH.
Temperatures dropped into the single digits, causing floodwaters to freeze and making repairs more difficult. Boston Water & Sewer confirmed that a valve failure, not a water main break, was the issue. Crews are working to replace the valve and restore water service, as reported by NBC Boston.
The commission expressed, "Thanks to the neighborhood for your patience." The community backed repair crews working in tough conditions, while emergency services ensured safety during icy weather. Boston Water & Sewer confirmed, "Crew is now securing a replacement part to make repair, water will be restored once repair is complete," advising residents to stay informed through official channels, as stated by NBC Boston.
