A tragic incident occurred last Wednesday when a vehicle struck a pedestrian at the intersection of E. State Blvd. and Hobson Rd. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, the pedestrian, who was using a walker as a wheelchair, suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The FWPD reported receiving a call about the accident around 8:11 pm. The incident occurred when the pedestrian was crossing the street in an unlit area, appearing unexpectedly in front of oncoming traffic. The vehicle involved was traveling west on E. State Blvd. when the collision happened. An investigation by FWPD revealed that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident. Police said the driver, who remained unharmed, simply did not see the pedestrian in time to stop.
This fatal accident has prompted an ongoing investigation by the FWPD FACT team and the Allen County Coroner’s Office to further understand the circumstances that led to the pedestrian’s untimely death. Further details about the victim or the driver have not been disclosed as the investigation is still active.
Officer A. Shotzman of the FWPD is urging residents to exercise caution and to remain vigilant especially during evening hours to prevent further tragedies.
