Tragedy struck Putnam County this weekend when 60-year-old Jeffrey Nowak of Greencastle died after his golf cart plunged through the ice on Glenn Flint Lake. According to a WISHTV.com press release, emergency services received a call about the incident at 12:46 a.m. Sunday and Nowak was later pronounced dead at Putnam County Hospital.
Responders that arrived at the accident scene found Nowak and made attempts at life-saving efforts in the cold hours of the morning. Nowak's vehicle, driving on the lake's surface, not able to support the weight of the golf cart, led to his untimely demise. Along with local fire departments, Putnam County Emergency Services, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, and the Indiana State Police contributed to the response efforts.
The events leading up to the accident are under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers. As reported by WTHR, the incident still prompts questions, especially given the fatal outcome. This incident at Glenn Flint Lake was not the only ice-related death in central Indiana over the weekend, as noted by a FOX59 report, which detailed another case where a 16-year-old was found dead inside an ice-fishing shanty on a private pond in Howard County.
