Residents in Indianapolis should prepare for a mixture of weather conditions over the next several days, according to the latest report from the National Weather Service. The forecast indicates variable skies with rain chances and even some thunderstorms particularly targeting regions of South Central Indiana on Friday afternoon and evening. The city can expect a high near 49 degrees today with rain likely, mainly after 4 pm, and a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
In the evening, the likelihood of rain will increase to 90 percent, bringing potentially a quarter to a half-inch of new precipitation. While the winds have a forecast blowing light from the south, they could occasionally gust as high as 18 mph. The temperatures overnight are to hover around 42, with a persistent south-southeast wind.
Moving into the weekend, showers are expected to continue on Friday with a 70 percent chance of rain. The weather is set to become partly sunny by Saturday, although come nightfall, the skies will likely become mostly cloudy once more. The trend of overcast conditions will persist until Sunday when temperatures peak near 58 degrees, with winds that could gust up to 23 mph.
The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook, which, isolated thunder, and lightning are possible tonight in Western and Southwestern Indiana. Spotters, however, aren’t expected to be activated at this stage. The early part of next week will continue the pattern of mostly cloudy nights and partly sunny days, with the probability of rain returning by Wednesday, as the chance of precipitation climbs back to 60 percent.
