On Friday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives arrested 33-year-old Matthew Dillon after an expansive drug investigation. The focus of the arrest was based on allegations of large-scale marijuana distribution on the northwest side of the city. IMPD shared the details of the operation and subsequent charges on their official Facebook page, generating interest and concern among local residents.
IMPD Northwest District Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) detectives had been monitoring Dillon's activities since early January. Their investigation revealed sufficient probable cause that Dillon was trafficking marijuana. This information led detectives to secure a search warrant for Dillon's residence. The raid uncovered not only an extensive quantity of marijuana but also a large cache of firearms and ammunition. A tallied 22,556.3 grams of raw marijuana, 434 THC vape cartridges, almost 100 grams of THC wax and edibles, 4,452 rounds of live ammunition, 7 rifles, 7 pistols, and $46,929 in cash were confiscated from the premises.
According to IMPD News, the seizure of the 14 firearms was deemed necessary due to the presence of a child within the residence who could access these firearms and because a known felon also resided at that location. The incident not only brings to light issues of drug trafficking but also raises concern regarding the safety and well-being of children caught in these untenable situations.
Following his detention, Dillon faced multiple charges, including Neglect of a Dependent, Dealing in a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Dealing in Marijuana (over 10 pounds), Possession of Marijuana, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will be responsible for the final decision on charges. IMPD emphasized the presumption of innocence, reminding the public that an arrest and charge are simply accusations. Until proven guilty in a court of law, individuals should be regarded as innocent.
