It's three strikes for the Kokomo Jackrabbits as they announce a step back from the 2025 season. According to FOX59, the team has decided not to play due to "unforeseen circumstances," and what's more, their future in Kokomo seems to hang on the thread of legal complications. The official Facebook post lamented this would have been their 10-year anniversary filled with nostalgia and baseball fanfare, yet Kokomo Municipal Stadium will now be void of that familiar crack of the bat.
Fans looking forward to the summer ritual of watching collegiate athletes swing wooden bats will be disappointed as the Jackrabbits, the only Indiana team in the Northwoods League, hits a pause in their plays the news first broke through a social media statement, the franchise paused in its tracks because "legal matters beyond the team's control" have forced their hand and now the team's participation is on a hiatus, and the question remains what the future might hold, this coming from a report by WTHR.
Digging deeper into the rabbit hole, a Stadium Journey article sheds light on the legal quagmire that has entangled the franchise. It appears the city and Kokomo Baseball LLC, which owns the team, are stuck in a dispute over lease renewal protocols, the city filed a complaint alleging that the team did not provide written notice for lease renewal within the set timeframe. The lease non-renewal has consequently forced the Jackrabbits to exit the stadium by the end of September last year.
