An 18-year-old suspect, Aaron McClure, was arrested again in connection with the December 23 shooting at Castleton Square Mall. McClure was initially arrested on December 24, but no charges were filed at that time by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. The incident began with a disturbance between two groups at the mall's main entrance, which led to gunfire and the discovery of a man who had been shot, according to FOX59.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officials disclosed yesterday that upon locating additional evidence, which included the identification of the victim, detectives were able to clearly link McClure to the crime scene. Subsequently, IMPD officers re-arrested McClure in Avon, alongside a 17-year-old individual accused of dangerous possession of a firearm, FOX59 details. Despite earlier reports indicating no injuries, significant developments have emerged since the day of the incident.
According to WTHR, the young man, who was also a victim of the gunfire that evening, was hospitalized in stable condition after presenting himself at Eskenazi Hospital. IMPD stated that further investigation, including reviewing security footage from the mall, provided additional information. The footage showed McClure and an associate chasing a suspect involved in the conflict, which eventually led to McClure being injured and identified as carrying a weapon.
IMPD's North District Violence Reduction Team and Violent Crimes Task Force were instrumental in apprehending McClure on charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, according to WISH-TV. A younger suspect, whose name has not been released due to their age, now faces preliminary charges.
Details regarding the charges and the ongoing investigation are expected to emerge as IMPD provides updates. The investigation into the Castleton Square Mall shooting remains active, with law enforcement urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in resolving the case and understanding the events that led to the violence in a public space.
