The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana has been active in both prosecuting crime and recovering funds. In Fiscal Year 2024, the office collected $33,855,363 through civil and criminal actions, according to U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, the office focused on cracking down on white-collar crime, collecting financial litigation debts, and enforcing criminal restitution. A total of $18,840,034.68 was recovered through these efforts, and an additional $15,015,329 came from asset forfeiture.
"The U.S. Attorney’s Office is dedicated to protecting the public and recovering funds for the victims of crime," Myers stated in the same release, noting the collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Assets forfeited by criminals were deposited into the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund, which helps return funds to victims and supports law enforcement efforts to prevent future crimes.
