Drivers traversing the scenic roads of Parleys Canyon and Park City will now have access to real-time updates and travel advice thanks to a new initiative by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). The UDOT Wasatch Back program, as reported by UDOT, seeks to extend the successful model of the Roads to Recreation program which has been steering travelers safely through Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons since 2019.

The program aims to make the wintery excursions of travelers to Utah's popular recreational spots like Parleys Canyon and Park City areas more predictable and efficient through its various communication channels. According to UDOT, Becky Parker, UDOT Traveler Information Director, emphasized the importance of timely, accurate information as she stated, “With UDOT Wasatch Back, we’re expanding our reach to make winter travel safer and more efficient for everyone.” This sentiment is a reflection of UDOT's commitment to public safety and awareness.

UDOT Wasatch Back will serve up relevant updates for key routes including I-80 in Parleys Canyon, US-40 from Silver Creek Junction to Mayflower, SR-224 into Park City, and SR-248 into Park City. The service will be invaluable not only to those heading to ski resorts but to all navigating these stretches. Real-time updates are set to begin on January 22 and will include alerts on major crashes, traction law enactments, ski resort parking statuses, and other traffic-related news.
