A woman has died and a man is in critical condition following a domestic standoff that occurred early today on Indianapolis' northeast side, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported. Officers who were dispatched to the 7100 block of Kingswood Court around 2 a.m., initially attended to what was believed to be a home invasion robbery but the situation quickly unfurled to reveal a domestic disturbance with a barricaded man inside a residence alongside two women, according to WRTV.

Despite hours of negotiations led by SWAT to quell the matter, gunfire erupted within; one woman managed to escape unharmed while another was tragically found with critical gunshot injuries alongside the man, both victims were then rushed to the hospital and the woman subsequently succumbed to her injuries said IMPD in a statement provided to FOX59, the man's wounds are suspected to be self-inflicted.

While the incident was initially shrouded with the possibility of an external criminal act, preliminary information released by the IMPD indicates that this grim sequence was domestic-related, "at least one of the individuals shot was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound; however, that has not been confirmed," IMPD said in a statement, shedding light on the narrative that no other parties are suspected to be involved as reported by WISH-TV. Homicide detectives are currently handling the investigation and are urging anyone with information to step forward.

For now, those with information regarding the incident can contact Detective Christopher Winter at the IMPD Homicide Office or through his email, as detailed by WRTV in the outreach for public assistance.
