On Monday, a man was taken into custody and is now facing serious charges for allegedly burglarizing multiple businesses in Chicago's 1st District, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. Terrance Shorts, 30, from the 7400 block of S. Yates, is accused of five felony counts of burglary after his arrest on W. Lake St in the afternoon.
According to the authorities' account, Shorts supposedly burglarized several locations in the early hours of January 27; the sites ranged from the 500 block of W. Lake to multiple addresses on N. Clinton, a charge which if proven, marks a spree of thefts carried out with alarming rapidity and Shorts also faces six issuances of the warrant. The Chicago Police Department released these details without further elaboration referencing additional information at this juncture.
In a sequence of incidents that prompted the official response, Shorts is alleged to have hit several businesses beginning at 1:40 a.m. on the designated date, with the alleged burglaries clustering in proximity and time as the events unfolded into the deeper silence of predawn Chicago. His identification led to a detention hearing scheduled for today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
