An illegal party advertised as a "Valentine's Euphoria Party," slated to be held on Saturday, met an abrupt end at the hands of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives after they discovered numerous safety violations and evidence of underage drinking at the Encanto Banquet Hall. As reported by IMPD News, the event had attracted about 200 attendees before being shut down on the evening of the party.
Last week's investigation by the IMPD Nuisance Abatement Unit (NAU) into the Encanto Banquet Hall, located on E Washington Street, revealed the absence of necessary permits to host the event, which drew in a youthful crowd through promises of surreptitious alcohol consumption with flyers encouraging attendees to bring "liquor in water bottles." Upon arrival on the event night, detectives witnessed a string of vehicles and a queue at the fire hall exit used as an entry, officers observed the presumed underage individuals drinking alcohol and they noticed several disturbances among the crowd prompting them to call for Event Response Group (ERG) backup, who helped disperse the gathering.
With a search warrant in hand, IMPD officials discovered visible signs of alcohol inside the banquet hall and identified serious safety breaches, including only one accessible entry and exit point, a direct violation of fire codes. The venue operator, present during this intervention, was asked to present the necessary permits and failed to do so. Deputy Chief Kendale Adams highlighted the gravity of the situation, remarking, "We are not in the business of shutting down legal and safe celebrations, but when gatherings of this scale operate outside the law and create significant safety risks for the entire community, we have an obligation to act." His statement reflected a firm stance on prioritizing public security, as reported by IMPD News.
In response to the infractions, the NAU issued four citations that could amass up to $10,000 in fines and arrested one individual for underage drinking, despite such incidents being a routine outcome of proactive police interventions, they underscore the authorities' commitment to maintaining lawful conduct and public safety.
