Multiple semi trucks caught fire on the northwest side of Indianapolis, resulting in visible smoke from Interstate 465. The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a call about a semi truck fire at the El Paisano Warehouse, located at 6450 Gateway Drive, yesterday afternoon around 3:45 p.m., as reported by WTHR. The fire, quickly brought under control, saw four semi truck cabs ablaze in the parking lot, though officials assert the warehouse itself was not ignited.
In a swift response to the emergency, the Indianapolis Fire Department, alongside the Speedway and Pike Township fire departments, managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the building. Despite the close call, the semis left the nearby warehouse only with soot and smoke damage. "Firefighters quickly deployed handlines and supply lines bringing the fire under," was stated in a social media post by the Indianapolis Fire Department, as reported by their offical X post. The semi trucks involved were confirmed to be unoccupied, and, thankfully, no injuries were reported at the scene.

The incident drew the attention of bystanders and travelers on the adjacent Interstate 465, with smoke from the burning trucks becoming a visual marker of the incident. El Paisano Wholesale, the business owning the warehouse, specializes in food and beverage distribution, but it remains unclear how the incident has affected their operations. "Four unoccupied semis were ultimately impacted by the blaze," according to information from a public police reporting system cited by FOX59. Owing to the quick response, the blaze itself was subdued in just 15 minutes.
As for the cause of the fire, that remains under investigation by officials. The complexity of such fires often calls for thorough and meticulous examination to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the ignition. Assistance provided by neighboring fire departments played a crucial role, as emphasized in the collective effort to combat the flames. As of now, the details surrounding the start of the fire remain as elusive as the smoke clearing from over the warehouse in the minutes after the firefighters' successful intervention.
