For the second consecutive day, tragedy struck the Downers Grove Metra station when a pedestrian was hit and killed by a train. According to WGN-TV, the incident occurred Tuesday morning when BNSF train No. 1228 collided with an individual around 7:30 a.m. near 5001 Main Street, the location of the Downers Grove station. The previous day, another pedestrian was struck and suffered the same fate in the vicinity of this station.

The repeated occurrences have prompted scrutiny and questions regarding safety measures at the crossing. After the accident on Tuesday morning, Metra resumed inbound and outbound train movement near Main Street but warned of substantial delays. The report comes mere days after Monday afternoon's casualty, where, according to ABC7 Chicago, a pedestrian died after being struck by a train near Gilbert Avenue, close to the same location.

In response, Metra has implemented travel adjustments to accommodate affected commuters. An extra train is now servicing passengers between Fairview Ave/Downers Grove and Chicago. Additionally, BNSF train No. 1244 will be temporarily out of operation while the investigations into the incidents continue. Local authorities have yet to provide details concerning the identity of the victims or the circumstances leading up to the collisions.

A village spokesperson stated that the Main Street train crossing will remain closed as part of the investigative process. Despite the resumption of services, passengers should anticipate delays while safety protocols and evaluations are carried out.
