Earlier today, Brownsburg residents were struck by an unexpected tragedy, where two men were found dead after a shooting. Around 2:30 a.m., officers of the Brownsburg Police Department, reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity of Acre Avenue, as noted in WTHR's report. The scene, near East Main Street and South Green Street, soon turned into the focal point of a double homicide investigation.
Upon arriving at the site, police discovered both victims with gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the location. A person linked to the incident has been taken into custody, details, however, remain sparse at this time, according to information shared with WISHTV.
The local police were quick to advise that despite the grim discovery there was "no active threat to the community," a comment from Brownsburg Police Sergeant Katrina Barrett provided to FOX59. In the wake of the shooting, Acre Avenue between Washington Street and Vernon Lane was temporarily closed, potentially disrupting school bus routes, a consideration not lost on local officials as they gave timely notifications to area schools.
Sgt. Barrett offered further context to the area's usual calmness, saying, "This is actually a very quiet area, in fact, a lot of the residents here have been here for many years, right here on Acre Avenue. So, definitely not an area that we receive any sort of issues, noise complaints, certainly any active investigations to this caliber," as reported by FOX59. As Brownsburg residents process this disruption to their tranquility, the authorities have pledged a rigorous investigation, to uncover the events that led to the loss of two lives earlier today.
