Residents of Eagle Mountain are feeling a bit safer after a spree of vehicle burglaries met their end this past weekend. Utah County Sheriff's Office took the lead on this operation, nabbing multiple suspects who had been targeting local parked cars. According to the Utah County Sheriff's Office, deputies were able to gather video evidence of the suspects committing the crimes and identified their getaway car, a dark-colored Tesla.
One of the more modern tools in the sheriff's arsenal, a "find my device" type of application, proved vital. It helped trace one of the stolen items to a residence in Tooele County. A search warrant later, and law enforcement had their hands on one adult suspect, Colton Roger Jones, who was taken into custody. Jones now faces a laundry list of charges, including, but not limited to, 18 counts of vehicle burglary-related offenses.
The eagle-eyed deputies didn't just stop at the apprehension of an adult suspect. There was an intervention with three juveniles as well. Charges for these youthful suspects are referred to the 4th District Juvenile Court, mirroring crimes as their senior counterparts. Though most of the items pilfered from local vehicles were recovered, there's a reminder in these incidents of the adage, opportunity makes a thief. Even an attempt to use stolen credit cards at a local McDonald's was part of this less-than-masterful crime spree.
