The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has renewed its appeal to the public as it seeks to identify an individual in connection with a homicide from 2023. Investigators have circled back to a cold case where a person was present at the Shell gas station at 3402 N Emerson Avenue right before the strike of midnight on July 28, 2023, a moment frozen in time that has continued to elude resolution, as FOX59 reported.
The tragic incident resulted in the death of 19-year-old Antwain Turentine Jr., who was discovered wounded in a vehicle outside the gas station location at the heart of the case, the narrative anchored by a plea from authorities for assistance; as per WISH-TV's coverage, Turentine did not survive after being rushed to IU Health Methodist Hospital. In their continuous pursuit of closure, IMPD believes that Turentine was shot while seated within the parked vehicle, leading to a suspect who is thought to have absconded on foot post-homicide.
In addition to the call for public involvement, IMPD has provided a direct line of contact for the lead detective on the case, urging anyone with potential information to step forward and help illuminate the shadows cast by the event, those who wish can reach out to detective Douglas Swalis directly via email or remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
Further solidifying the call-to-action, citing that Turentine, 18 at the time of his death, sustained fatal gunshot wounds outside the Citgo gas station on the same address, though their account mentions a difference in Turentine's age at the time of his death when compared to the earlier reports, all the more emphasizing the critical role the community could play in piecing together the vestiges of truth, as noted by WRTV.
