According to FOX59, explicit graffiti was sprawled across the church's exterior yesterday. Obscene messages such as "F*** the lord" and "die, die, die" marred the structure's walls. Pastor Ronald Covington expressed his dismay, stating, "It’s a level of disrespect. It’s dishonoring God and his house. This is the lord’s house. We’re tired of it, we’re saddened by it — this evil. Acts of evil, that’s basically what it is."
The incident, which targeted not only the church but also its bus, shows a stark and disheartening sign of intolerance and hatred. WTHR received photos of the damages from a church member, illustrating that the vandalism occurred just before a community meeting yesterday evening.
In another act of desecration, additional phrases such as "the devil rules" were written alongside the previously mentioned messages, according to FOX59.
Local authorities were notified, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was seen on the scene, according to a Facebook live video detailed by the Indianapolis Recorder. The video showcased offensive language painted onto the church and its bus, with phrases such as "666" and "satan Lives" clearly visible. The bus in question also suffered a broken window, indicating the vandalism might have been more than just an expression of blasphemy or hate speech — it was also an act of physical aggression against church property.
The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, with a history dating back to 1917, is a landmark on 1600 North Goodlet Avenue.
