
A car accident early this morning left a juvenile in life-threatening condition. The incident took place just before 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of S. Coliseum Blvd and Schele Ave. According to Officer Adam Hartman, the vehicle, traveling southbound, veered off the road and struck a tree, causing the car to split in two, the Fort Wayne Police Department reports.
The back half of the vehicle ended up wrapped around the tree, while the front portion continued to travel an additional 75 to 100 feet down the road. Remarkably, the driver was initially alert and conversational when officers arrived on the scene however the situation worsened at the hospital, downgrading the driver's status to life-threatening. As of now, investigations are still underway to determine the involvement of alcohol or drugs, although speed has been confirmed as a factor in the crash.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s FACT team and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office are still examining the circumstances of the incident. There were no other passengers in the car, and indications suggest that no other vehicles were involved in the cause of the crash.
