Early this morning in the dim glow of pre-dawn, two juveniles found themselves in handcuffs following a failed attempt to outrun law enforcement in a stolen vehicle. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office reports that around 3:30 a.m., deputies spotted a Jeep Compass behaving suspiciously in a local Kohl's parking lot. Attempts to investigate were met with an attempted escape, leading to a high-speed chase that weaved dangerously through a construction site on W. Lloyd Expressway.
The chase came to an abrupt halt on the Tekoppel Avenue bridge, where the two suspects abandoned the stolen Jeep and attempted to flee on foot. Although the K9 unit brought in couldn't catch the juveniles, sharp policing found them hiding in the garage of a nearby residence. According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle had been reported stolen prior to the incident.
Following the apprehension, the young suspects were taken in for questioning at the Operations Center. Their day concluded behind the doors of the Youth Care Center, where they now face multiple charges including felony and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, as well as possession of a stolen vehicle.
