A 25-year-old Magna man, Armando Valenzuela, was arrested, facing charges of murder and aggravated child abuse following the death of his infant son. According to ABC4, the tragic discovery happened after Valenzuela disclosed to the 911 responders that the child was fussing before suddenly going limp, an incident that occurred when he was alone with the child.
According to the documents released by the authorities, the infant, who was just over a month old, had injuries indicative of "abusive head trauma," including retinal hemorrhaging and brain bleeding; this information was sourced from KUTV. The baby, identified as Giovanni, born on February 12, was taken to the Primary Children's Hospital on March 14 with a weak pulse and subsequently thereafter passed away on March 17, as per FOX 13.
Autopsy results have shown severe subarachnoid hemorrhaging and multiple rib fractures – injuries that experts ascribe more to cases of abuse rather than accidents. Meanwhile, officers interviewed Valenzuela, who denied causing harm yet did not exhibit surprise upon learning of his son's critical injuries.
Adding to the statements provided by the mother, who noticed discrepancies in the infant's behavior, stated the child would "typically only go into his loud screams" when alone with Valenzuela, in what could be seen as a chilling addenda Valenzuela during transport to jail inquired about second chances, asking an officer whether he believed if found guilty he deserved one, according to ABC4. Valenzuela, who speculated that possibly the medical staff's handling of his son contributed to the child's demise, was taken into custody last Friday.
