Residents of Miami-Dade County will have to wait longer for a decision on a proposed waste incinerator site after the Board of Commissioners postponed the vote until they receive a comprehensive report. According to the City of Doral news release, the commissioners decided to delay the selection and will revisit the issue on July 16.
This delay follows two years of discussions about the incinerator location. A decision was initially expected at the February 19 meeting, after a workshop on January 28. However, the decision was postponed, with item 11A6 proposing to exclude Doral, Medley, and NW 58th Street as potential sites. The administration has been tasked with exploring alternative waste management methods, such as landfilling and waste-to-energy technologies.
A detailed report on the financial, environmental, and logistical aspects of the county's waste management system is expected within 120 days. According to the City of Doral, commissioners emphasized the importance of a detailed analysis to make a well-informed decision.
