A 21-year-old Miami woman, Armani Alexis Rodgers, was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that left a scooter rider critically injured. Miami police announced the arrest today following the incident, which occurred Monday night on Northeast 79th Street and Fifth Avenue, as reported by Local 10.
Rodgers, reportedly driving a gray Nissan Altima without the owner's permission, is accused of hitting a gas-powered scooter and dragging it several feet before it stopped. According to WSVN, Rodgers and her passenger fled the scene but later returned multiple times, allegedly to remove items including the car's license plate and their IDs.
The female passenger on the scooter suffered severe head trauma and remains in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Hoodline reported that the woman’s condition was initially critical but has since been reported stable. The condition of a potential second passenger has not been disclosed.
Rodgers turned herself in to authorities yesterday after the vehicle's owner identified her as the driver. She faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash without serious injury. Rodgers remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bond "to be set," according to Local 10.
