
A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV on Indianapolis's near southeast side. The incident, which occurred around 6:45 p.m. yesterday, took place in the 3900 block of East Raymond Street, near South Sherman Drive, as reported by WTHR.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's fatal crash team was called to the scene where they found the victim, who was pronounced dead. FOX59 relayed details from IMPD officials who said, "the deceased victim was driving a motorcycle westbound on E Raymond Street when the motorcycle struck an SUV." Following the initial impact, the motorcycle and its driver slid on the street, with the motorcyclist then reportedly hitting a guardrail. The aftermath of the collision resulted in the motorcycle catching on fire.
Authorities confirmed that the SUV driver, as well as witnesses present at the time of the crash, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. WRTV stated that subsequent to the fatal crash, the SUV driver was transported to a nearby hospital for a blood draw, which is a customary procedure in such accidents.
The investigation into the specific circumstances of this fatal crash continues as police work to understand the chain of events that led to this tragic outcome. Meanwhile, the identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
