The El Paso County Sheriff's Office reported a tragic incident involving a train and a pedestrian on Sunday. According to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, deputies were called to the scene near 17250 Alameda at around 12:20 p.m. after a train struck an individual. The statement, which was released on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, also mentioned that upon their arrival, they joined forces with the Fabens Fire Department who had already found the victim, showing no signs of life, alongside the tracks.

Major Crimes Unit detectives took over the investigation, during which they interviewed the train engineer and another operator who witnessed the incident. According to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, Salazar Samson Zenas, a 24-year-old from Uvalde, Texas, was moving westward on the tracks' right side while wearing a hoodie over his head with headphones on, as the train approached from the east. The train sounded its horn multiple times, but Zenas, seemingly oblivious to the oncoming danger, did not move.

The unfortunate series of events culminated with the Medical Examiner’s Office declaring the individual deceased at the scene. Identification was made using a Texas ID card found on Zenas. As reported by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, "The individual showed no signs of life," and "The Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed the individual’s identity." The Sheriff's Office has since informed the next of kin of the fatality.
