A small aircraft experienced mechanical trouble yesterday at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, temporarily shutting down a runway. According to WSVN, the Piper Seneca twin-engine plane's landing gear collapsed on the right side during takeoff, causing the plane to skid sideways across the runway.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue units responded to the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m. The incident blocked Runway 31, which runs from southeast to northwest. The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured and safely exited the aircraftm, as reported by Local 10.
A crane and flatbed truck worked together to remove the aircraft, clearing the runway. After the plane was cleared, the runway reopened, and air traffic resumed without further issues.
