Seattle's Willow Creek has been transformed through the Willow Creek Fish Passage Restoration Project, which aims to restore the natural ecosystem and improve local accessibility. The project, completed with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday, was a collaboration between the Seattle Department of Transportation and Seattle Parks and Recreation. It involved re-routing the creek to bypass an obstructive culvert and eliminating two culverts, one of which had blocked fish passage.
As per the Seattle Parks and Recreation release, the project now provides a clear path for migratory fish species and includes additional greenery, improved stormwater management, and a pedestrian bridge connecting the area to nearby natural spaces.
New trees and shrubs were planted to enhance the area's environmental health.
