Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, a figure deeply woven into the festival's historical tapestry, articulated her dismay in a statement released to the public.

Mayor Wilson, whose roots trace back to being one of the original employees of the Sundance Institute, lamented the decision as "the end of an era." Adding to the sentiment, Wilson recalled how Robert Redford's vision to nurture independent cinema had led to the selection of Utah for its potent combination of landscapes and community.
