Commuters on North Pine Island Road should prepare for upcoming lane closures as the Public Works' Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) begins the next phase of bridge rehabilitation between Sunrise Lakes Boulevard and West Oakland Park Boulevard. According to the Broward County government’s announcement, this work will waterproof and resurface the bridge.
The work is part of a gas tax-funded project expected to be completed by August 11. During this phase, one lane in each direction will remain open, but traffic will be more limited. Most of the work below the bridge deck has been completed and did not require lane closures. The closures will take place during off-peak hours from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on Monday and Tuesday next week.
The Public Works Department has ensured that driveways and sidewalks will remain open for both pedestrian and motor traffic during the rehabilitation.
