Two Robbed at Gunpoint Near University of Chicago, Assailants at LargeSource: Chicago Police Department

The University of Chicago became the site of a distressing event late Saturday morning when two individuals were robbed at gunpoint. According to NBC Chicago, at approximately 11 a.m., near East 58th Street and South Woodlawn Avenue, three assailants exited a white Nissan Rogue and approached the victims with firearms drawn. During the altercation, one of the victims was struck before the thieves absconded with their belongings, heading southbound on Woodlawn Avenue.

This incident simply adds to a concerning pattern of crime in the area, with a similar event occurring just three weeks prior, also involving armed robbery. Student Rudra Patel, who experienced robbery himself last summer, told NBC Chicago, "That’s why I’m walking with someone, I never really walk outside of campus." The University has responded by reminding students and staff to remain vigilant and to make use of the safety escort services provided.

In a separate report by FOX 32 Chicago, the university email disclosed that the two victims, who are not affiliated with the university, faced assailants armed with handguns who demanded their property. The offenders were seen escaping in the Nissan Rogue, bearing a possible Illinois license plate EZ64558. Despite the ordeal, the victims did not seek medical care, and the University of Chicago Police Department has taken up the investigation.

Details remain scant, with no clear description of the offenders or information on what was taken from the victims. The authorities are reaching out for public support; anyone with knowledge about the incident is urged to contact 911 or the University of Chicago police directly.
