Major Brigham Moore, an alumnus of Utah State University and a deputy squadron commander in the U.S. Air Force, has been honored with the title of 2025 Federal Engineer of the Year. The recognition comes from the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the award was presented at a February 21 luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., as reported by USU Today.
Moore's 15-year career boasts a variety of roles that showcase his expertise and leadership within the engineering field, like civil engineer, chief of programs, and chief of operations engineering. He earned a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from USU, a master's in civil engineering from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and a doctorate in systems engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. His career milestones include impactful military construction projects and innovations to enhance U.S. defense capabilities, specifically in airfield recovery and explosive hazard mitigation.
A notable achievement in Moore’s recent career was his oversight of a $42 million military project in 2024 which aimed at reducing exposure to carcinogenic industrial chemicals and provided corrosion control for valuable aircraft assets. This project was close to being scrapped due to previous failures, but under Moore’s leadership, it was reinvigorated. He brought in commercial sector expertise to devise an innovative solution that turned the project around completely, which "had been previously deemed a failure" and "was nearly canceled," according to USU Today.
The National Society of Professional Engineers, which supports over 500,000 engineers, prioritizes engineering excellence and ethical decision-making in the field. Moore's recognition reflects not only his professional acumen but also his dedication to community service and STEM education advancement. His leadership has proven effective in executing high-stakes projects and developing solutions critical for the enhancement of engineering operations in federal service. It is these accomplishments that highlight his unwavering commitment to excellence in federal engineering, and why his peers have selected him for this prestigious award.
