Clarksville residents will have the opportunity to add some greenery to their homes as the city hosts a free tree seedling giveaway in honor of Arbor Day. As reported by the official City of Clarksville website, the event is set for Friday and will welcome locals to Liberty Park from 8 am to noon to pick up to five free seedlings per person.
The Arbor Day event offers a variety of native species, including sweet pecans, northern red oaks, and persimmon among others. Clarksville's Tree Board and Building & Facilities Maintenance, Forestry Division is hosting the event, where approximately 800 seedlings will be shared on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteers, provided with the aid of the Montgomery County UT Extension and the Montgomery County Master Gardeners Association, will be available to help from inside their vehicles during the drive-thru giveaway.
Those interested in attending have been reminded to stay in their cars to ensure a smooth and safe seedling handout. The drive-thru format of the Arbor Day celebration is designed to provide ease of access while still distributing the trees efficiently.
In an effort to preserve local biodiversity and encourage community involvement in greening the environment, the city authorities have selected a diverse array of seedlings. The sweet pecans and silky dogwoods, along with white oak and Virginia pines, are set to flourish in the region's climate, offering beauty and ecological benefits. The full list of available trees can be found on the city's announcement page.
For residents looking to take part in Arbor Day, Clarksville is offering free tree seedlings to help grow the city's future canopy.
