Passengers of the CTA Blue Line train experienced a jarring incident on the evening of April 11 when a robbery took place in the heart of Chicago's Loop neighborhood. Per a Chicago Police Department community alert, at around 9:00 p.m. on the 100 block of West Lake Street, an offender described as a male Black, 30-40 years of age, donning a black jacket with white striped sleeves, black pants, and white gym shoes, stole a custom-made violin valued at $10,000.
The unique instrument, housed in a black storage case and characterized by a distinct wood grain finish on the back, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department. The item lacks a serial number, complicating its recovery, thus the authorities are seeking public assistance.
Mass Transit Detectives have emphasized the importance of vigilance while using the city's public transport. They advise riders to be aware of their surroundings, remember specific details such as route numbers and car numbers, and immediately report any suspicious behavior. In the unfortunate event of an encounter with an assailant, staying calm and not engaging is recommended. Emergencies should be communicated directly via the train's emergency button or by calling 911 and providing a detailed description of the incident and the involved parties, as per the CPD.
The CPD is urging anyone with information about the stolen violin or the suspect involved to come forward.
