In a bid to celebrate local environmental efforts, the Hamilton County Parks and Recreation (HCPR) department is setting the stage for a public dedication ceremony to honor the founder of White River Rescue Inc., John Bundy. This event is slated for Tuesday next week, at 2:30 pm at the White River Campground, where a plaque acknowledging Bundy's relentless work in the conservation and revitalization of the White River will be revealed to attendees, as reported by Hamilton County Tourism.
Driven by a catastrophic pollution incident in 1999 that wreaked havoc on the White River's ecosystem, John Bundy spearheaded White River Rescue Inc. in 2000. His aim was to breathe life once more into the damaged waterway. His organization not only helped repopulate the river with fish but also provided guidance on environmental practices to prevent further degradation. HCPR Director Chris Stice affirmed in a statement obtained by Hamilton County Tourism, "We are proud to honor John Bundy’s remarkable contributions to the White River and the Hamilton County community."
Moreover, White River Rescue Inc. has extended its support financially with a sizable $52,000 donation to HCPR, targeted for the refurbishment of White River Campground’s fishing pier. The renovation goes a long way in both improving accessibility for visitors and enhancing the visual appeal of this local amenity. This investment showcases an ongoing commitment to not only the river's health but also the enhancement of public recreational spaces within Hamilton County.
The ceremony is expected to gather community members along with White River Rescue Inc.’s team, including Valarie Bundy, Steve Schwartz, Lori Schwartz, and Don Watson, whose contributions facilitated the renovation efforts at the campground.
