Runners in Nashville have a unique opportunity to combine fitness with philanthropy at the Nashville International Airport's 5th annual BNA 5k on the Runway event, set for the morning of Saturday, May 3. A mix of competitive runners, casual joggers, walkers, and community members looking for a unique fun experience will tackle the tarmac, with the added benefit of knowing their registration fees go toward local causes. Notably, this year’s proceeds will be lending a hand to several charitable organizations, including Nashville State Community College, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, and Musicians on Call.
The registration period is currently open, culminating on the day of the race with a fee set at $60. But those interested should lace up quickly, as the registration is limited to the first 1,000 participants. The event is as much about getting your heart rate up as it is about contributing to the heart of the community. "At Nashville International Airport®, we are committed to investing in the future of our community, and supporting education is the key part of that mission," Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, remarked in a statement obtained by Nashville State Community College's news release.
Education stands at the forefront of this year's BNA 5k focus. Nashville State Community College Foundation, which provides resources for student success and workforce development, is among the beneficiaries. The foundation's Executive Director Ryan Parker expressed gratitude for the Airport's support. "Nashville State Community College is grateful to the Nashville International Airport for its support in advancing efforts that ensure student success,” Parker told Nashville State Community College. Participants and observers alike can rest assured that their support is racing towards a noble cause.
With the inclusion of other beneficiaries such as the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which works to solve hunger issues in the area, and Musicians on Call, which delivers the healing power of music to patients in healthcare facilities.
