After an extensive facelift worth $60.5 million, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is ready to unveil its modern and sleek renovations to the public. The museum, a long-standing fixture at the entrance to Gate 2 of IMS, has been off-limits to visitors since November 2023 but is now all set for its grand reveal. According to FOX59, IMS Museum President Joe Hale said, "There’s not one square foot in this museum that hasn’t been touched in some way."
The rejuvenation project marks the museum's first significant renovation in four decades, transforming it into an immersive and interactive experience. Scheduled to reopen tomorrow, the museum features an array of attractions, including a journey through Gasoline Alley with era-specific race cars displayed in a matching period garage, as reported by WTHR. Visitors can also expect to be immersed in the Starting Line Experience, which encompasses video and audio that takes them right up to race morning and the flying of the green flag.
These novel features are designed to leave a memorable impression on both Indiana locals and visitors from afar. Joe Hale expressed his anticipation to WRTV, stating, "I don't care where you go in the world. If you mention you're from Indianapolis or from Indiana, typically that person is going to know us because of the Indy 500." The revitalized space aims to encapsulate this global recognition and the heritage of the Indy 500.
