An incident unfolded in Jackson County on Thursday as a two-month-old infant fell victim to a fatal dog attack. According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1800 block south of County Road 100 East after receiving reports of the incident at around 12:26 p.m.

When law enforcement officers and emergency responders arrived, they quickly began life-saving efforts. Deputies initiated CPR, which was soon taken over by Brownstown firefighters who had also responded. According to FOX59, the responders then decided to transport the critically injured infant to a designated landing zone for air ambulance evacuation, using a police vehicle.

The infant was rushed to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour to prepare for air transport. Unfortunately, the child succumbed to the severe injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. Meanwhile, the dog involved in the attack, identified as a pit bull, was secured and is currently held at the Jackson County K-9 Control Center, according to information provided by WTHR.

The authorities have yet to release further details about the dog's history or what may have precipitated the attack. They continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to this incident, as noted by a report from WISHTV.
