A tragic incident at a southern Utah living facility resulted in the death of a legally blind man, who was found in a pool on Monday. The man, a resident of the Legacy Village of St. George, had not had his name released to the public as the investigation into the circumstances of his drowning continues. According to FOX13, St. George police received a call about the incident shortly after 1:00 p.m. on the day in question.
Compounding the tragedy, the deceased was new to using a wheelchair and contended with several medical issues. KUTV reported that the police have begun an investigation to rule out any potential foul play. "With any drowning, we bring in our investigation team to see if there is any foul play. That is what we did this time," St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell said. "He was sent for an autopsy, and it is an open investigation. But, it appears it's possibly just an accidental drowning," as detailed by KUTV.
Legacy Village, the care facility where the incident took place, issued a statement expressing its condolences and support for the family of the deceased. However, as the investigation remains active, the facility has refrained from giving further comments. ABC4 News conveyed the facility's message, which underscores their commitment to the resident's family while maintaining respect for the investigative process. "We extend our deepest condolences and are offering our full support to their family during this incredibly difficult time," said a representative from Legacy Village, as obtained by ABC4.
